PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
